EPS-5011 • How to load roll media (Wide Format Epson)

***Always read the Epson printer user guide or contact Epson for tech support for any Epson product or software.***

Issue:
If your printer is rolling out lots of film before it begins to print it may be the way you loaded your film into the printer.

The Epson user guide has suggestions and here are few others. '

Resolve:

Newer print models:
such as the 7900 no longer have a suction (secure) lever, that have a front panel button that controls this through software. Read the Epson user guide, this process has been improved greatly and generally works properly.

Older models with a front loading sheet media tray:
with a mechanical Suction Level (secure) on the top of the printer such as the 4000, 4800 and 4880.

1. First turn off both the sheet size chk and PPR size chk option on the printer. (see tech documents "setting up a wide format printer for the first time" or "turn off sheet and PPS size chk".

2. Before loading ROLL MEDIA, set the ICON on the machine on SHEET!

3. Lift the suction lever and load your roll media as you normally would, making sure you line it up with the marks for loading. Do not load the film until it comes out the front of the printer.

4. Close (Secure) the suction lever and click the "pause" button.

5. Once the machine says ready, the printer should change to Roll, if this doe snot happen automatically then change your media on the front to ROLL or ROLL and CUT.

6. Your printer will no longer waste film before the print!

Printer Auto loads the film: Older Printers with manual Suction lever.

Another way to load film is to leave the suction lever in the secure position and feed the roll media in to the back of the printer. Once inserted deeply enough the printer will take the film and properly stage it to the print position. This also eliminates the front end waste. Due to certain manufacture film brands and emulsion coating the printer film/paper sensor does not always see the film properly. If this happens you may need to resort to the instructions above. Whenever possible this is the best method. Try a few times even restart the printer a few times to clear memory.
