ABI-2002 • All Black Ink Installation Instructions

TOPIC:

How do I Install and Use the All Black Ink System?

RESOLVE:

When installing the All Black Ink System (also under the brand names BlackMax) you MUST turn on the Multi-Black Setting in the AccuRIP's Setup feature. Failure to do so will create an imbalance in the cartridges and cause one or more cartridges to drain prematurely. Note: uneven draining is not possible with AccuRIP - only through the actions of the user.

Open AccuRIP, from the File menu choose Edit Configuration or Setup. Click Configure Printer or "what printer do you have" tab (depending on the version of AccuRIP you are operating). Select "Multi-black" and have all colors checked. Ink Coverage is usually set to Standard.

Desktop printers:

Desktop style models are easy, the cartridges are "drop in" style and there is very little ink to clean if it's a replacement set or to get going if it's a first time install.

1. Place the proper color coded cartridge into its matching slot in the printer. Complete the install process with all carts. DO NOT ATTEMPT to put the Epson black cartridges in all the slots to create an All Black scenario. This will likely damage your printer and the cartridge chips.

1400/1430 users have a two-part cartridge (color-coded frame and universal replacement dye ink tank).

2. Open the Epson Utility and perform a nozzle check and head cleaning (only if needed) until all the heads are working properly. The Epson Utility is an Epson feature so read about it in your Epson documentation.

Wide Format printers:

1. For first time installation into a new printer that has never had ink installed, install the Epson ink that shipped with the hardware to ensure that the printer is in proper working order. When proven, change out the inks to the All Black Ink system by placing the proper color coded cartridge into its matching slot in the printer. Complete the install process.

2. When prompted with the "Non Genuine" message on the printer simply click the down arrow until you are through the disclaimer answering "yes" and "accept" when prompted by clicking the left arrow. For more info about this see the tech note about "non genuine" in the website tech support section.

3. When changing out color inks for the All Black Ink system, you will need to perform a "Power Clean" or "Powerful Clean" to clear the lines of color ink. There is no issue with pigment and dye inks in the device at the same time. It is best to print films that you use to burn your screens for screen-printing with black dye ink which has UV light blocking properties. Your film results will be better.

4. Open the Epson Utility and perform a nozzle check and head cleaning (only if needed) until all the heads are working properly.

Replacing colored inks for the ALL BLACK Ink Cartridge System.

1. Place the proper color coded cartridge into its matching slot in the printer. Complete the install process.

2. When prompted with the "Non Genuine" message on the printer simply click the down arrow until you are through the disclaimer. For more info about this see the tech note about "non genuine" in the website tech support section.

3. From the printer control panel locate the maintenance section and perform a single "power clean". This moves the colored inks in the hoses from the cartridge to the head into the Epson maintenance tank replacing all the lines with black ink up to the print head.

4. Open the Epson Utility and perform a nozzle check and head cleaning (only if needed) until all the heads are working properly.

Note: Power cleans use ink - don't power clean without a real need or you are dumping ink unnecessarily.
